How to download & deploy Windows 10 1909 feature update?

Steps to deploy Windows 10 1909 update

1.Prerequisites

Prerequisites to deploy Windows 10 1909 updates

  1. Before deployment, run through the Compatibility Check available under the Important Notes section to find if you meet all the minimum requirements that impact upgradeability.
  2. Ensure that feature pack option is enabled under Patch database settings.
    In Desktop Central: Patch Mgmt -> Settings -> Patch Database Settings -> click on the Windows tab and enable the Feature Pack option.
    In Patch Manager Plus: Admin -> Settings -> Patch Database Settings -> click on the Windows tab and enable the Feature Pack option.
  3. Ensure that you have not declined the feature pack updates under decline patches section.
  4. Microsoft has recommended upgrading to the latest version Windows 10 1909. You shall directly upgrade to the Windows 10 1909 version from your existing version of Windows 10 and, you do not have to deploy any versions in between.

2.Download and Add the dependency patch (ISO file) to the Patch store.

Windows 10 1909 Enterprise Edition

For any Desktop Central, Patch Manager Plus, or Vulnerability Manager Plus versions, follow the below steps to download the ISO image.

  1. Download Windows 10 1909 ISO file from Volume Licensing Service Center.
  2. Navigate to patch store location:To find patch store location in Desktop Central, navigate to Patch Management-> Downloaded Patches -> Settings -> Patch Repository Location.
  3. To find patch store location in Patch Manager Plus, navigate to Patches-> Downloaded Patches -> Settings -> Patch Repository Location.
  4. To find patch store location in vulnerability Manager Plus, navigate to Patches-> Downloaded Patches -> Settings -> Patch Repository Location.
  5. Copy the downloaded ISO file manually into the patch store directory, and rename the ISO file as given below:

Language-English:

  • 32 Bit: 107615-Win10_1909_en_enterprisex32.iso
  • 64 Bit: 107611-Win10_1909_en_enterprisex64.iso

The above naming convention is applicable only for Windows 10 1909 Enterprise edition.

  • Desktop Central, Patch Manager Plus, and Vulnerability Manager Plus supports the deployment of feature packs for multiple languages. Click here to view the ISO setup file for the language of your choice.

Note - To deploy Win 10 feature packs in more than one language, check the respective ISO files for each language, download and place them in the patch store.

Other Windows 10 1909 Editions

For Desktop Central build versions 10.0.429 and above
  1. Navigate to Patch Management -> Patches -> Supported Patches and search for Patch ID 107613 (for 32-Bit) or 107609 (for 64-Bit).
  2. Select on the appropriate patch and click on "Download Patches". This will automatically download the appropriate ISO file.
  3. After downloading the patch, proceed to the feature pack deployment steps given in the next section.
For Desktop Central build versions 10.0.319 to 10.0.428
  1. The ISO file download is automated in Desktop Central build version 10.0.319 and above (Except for Windows 10 1909 Enterprise Edition). Kindly follow the steps given here to enable the automatic download of the ISO image.
  2. After enabling directly proceed to the feature pack deployment step.
For Desktop Central build version below 10.0.319
  1. Download Windows 10 1909 ISO file from Volume Licensing Service Center or from here.
  2. Navigate to patch store location: To find patch store location, navigate to Patch Management-> Downloaded Patches -> Settings -> Patch Repository Location.
  3. Copy the downloaded ISO file manually into the patch store directory, and rename the ISO file as given below:

Language - English

  • 32 Bit: 107613-Win10_1909_enx32.iso
  • 64 Bit: 107609-Win10_1909_enx64.iso

The above naming convention is not applicable for Windows 10 1909 Enterprise edition.

For Patch Manager Plus build version 10.0.545 and above
  1. Navigate to Patches -> Supported Patches and search for Patch ID 107613 (for 32-Bit) or 107609 (for 64-Bit).

  3. After downloading the patch, proceed to the feature pack deployment steps given in the next section.
For Patch Manager Plus build versions 10.0.327 to 10.0.426
  1. The ISO file download is automated in Patch Manager Plus build version 10.0.327 and above (Except for Windows 10 1909 Enterprise Edition). Kindly follow the steps given here to enable the automatic download of the ISO image.
  2. After enabling directly proceed to the feature pack deployment step.
For Patch Manager Plus build version below 10.0.327
  1. Download Windows 10 1909 ISO file from Volume Licensing Service Center or from here.
  2. Navigate to patch store location:To find patch store location, navigate to Patches-> Downloaded Patches -> Settings -> Patch Repository Location.
  3. Copy the downloaded ISO file manually into the patch store directory, and rename the ISO file as given below:

3.Deploy the Windows 10 1909 updates.

Manual deployment

  1. In the server web console, navigate to missing patches view.
  2. Choose the Windows 10 1909 feature pack patches you wish to deploy.

    3. Patch ID details:

    • 107616 - Windows 10 1909 Enterprise Edition - 32 Bit
    • 107612 - Windows 10 1909 Enterprise Edition - 64 Bit
    • 107614 - Other Windows 10 1909 Editions - 32 Bit
    • 107610 - Other Windows 10 1909 Editions - 64 Bit
  3. Click Install Patch to deploy them.

Automated Deployment

  1. To create an APD task for deploying feature packs, make sure to select the feature pack check box while defining the patch task.
  2. Once the dependency patch is downloaded and stored in the Patch Store, "Feature Packs" will be successfully deployed to the target computers during the subsequent deployment window. A separate configuration can be created for the particular patch on demand.
